Yes, tipping your Kilimanjaro crew is an important part of the climb. Your guides, cook, and porters work very hard to make your trek safe and enjoyable — carrying your gear, setting up camp, cooking meals, and supporting you every step of the way.
While tipping is not mandatory, it is a common and appreciated tradition on the mountain. The usual total tip per climber ranges from $250 to $350, depending on the group size, route, and length of the climb.
A simple guide to fair tipping is:
Lead guide: $20–25 per day
Assistant guide: $15–20 per day
Cook: $12–15 per day
Porter: $6–10 per day
