Do You Need a Visa?
Most travelers need a visa to enter Tanzania. Citizens of the following countries can get a visa on arrival or apply for an e-Visa:
- United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia
- Most European Union countries
- China, India, Japan, South Korea
Types of Visas
- Ordinary Single Entry Visa — USD (most nationalities), valid for 90 days
- US Citizens — USD for single entry, valid for 90 days
- Multiple Entry Visa — USD, valid for 12 months
- Transit Visa — USD, valid for 7 days
- Business Visa — USD, valid for 90 days
E-Visa Application
Apply online at eservices.immigration.go.tz at least 2 weeks before travel. Processing takes 5-10 business days. You will receive an approval letter to present at the airport.
Passport Requirements
- Valid for at least 6 months from arrival date
- At least 1 blank page for the visa stamp
- Return or onward flight ticket required
Yellow Fever Certificate
If arriving from a yellow fever endemic country (e.g., Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda), you MUST present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Without it, you may be denied entry or required to vaccinate at the airport.
Tips for Smooth Entry
- Carry printed copies of all documents
- Have USD cash ready for visa fee if not applying online
- Complete the arrival card before landing
