Itinerary

Day 1

Mpanda to Katavi National Park

Transfer from Mpanda town to Katavi National Park, one of Tanzania's most remote and untouched wilderness areas. The drive takes you through rural villages and miombo woodlands, offering a glimpse into daily life in western Tanzania. Arrive in the early afternoon and head straight into the park for your first game drive along the Katuma River, where enormous herds of buffalo and elephants gather during the dry season. The floodplains are home to huge populations of hippos, crocodiles, and an incredible diversity of birdlife. Watch elephants drinking and playing in the river, and look for lions resting in the shade of the riverside trees. Set up camp at a basic campsite and enjoy a simple but hearty dinner under the stars, listening to the sounds of the African night.

Day 2

Katavi Game Drive and Return to Mpanda

Rise before dawn for a full day of game driving in Katavi, exploring the floodplains and river systems that make this park so special. The morning drive focuses on the Katuma River, where enormous herds of buffalo and elephants congregate during the dry season, creating one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles in Africa. Watch lions stalking prey among the buffalo herds and crocodiles lurking in the shallows. After a bush lunch, the afternoon drive explores the floodplains, where huge numbers of zebra, wildebeest, and impala graze on the short grass. Katavi is also home to large populations of wild dogs, leopards, and cheetahs, so keep your eyes peeled. In the late afternoon, transfer back to Mpanda with incredible memories of one of Africa's least-visited and most wild national parks.
