4 Days Mara River Quick Crossing

Depart Arusha early morning and drive to Kogatende in the Northern Serengeti via the stunning Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The scenic drive takes approximately 6-7 hours with game drives en route. Alternatively, take a light aircraft flight (45 minutes). On arrival, check into your camp and enjoy lunch. Afternoon game drive along the Mara River corridor — scan the riverbanks for crocodiles and watch the herds gathering on the southern bank. The anticipation builds as thousands of wildebeest pace nervously along the water edge. Return to camp as the sun sets over the Serengeti plains.

Depart camp at first light and drive to the Mara River crossing points. Your experienced guide will position you at the best vantage points based on herd movements and river conditions. Pack a bush lunch to eat by the river as patience is key — crossings can happen at any moment. When it does happen, witness thousands of wildebeest plunge into the crocodile-filled river in a chaotic yet magnificent spectacle. The crossing can last from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the size of the herd. Some animals make it across, others fall prey to crocodiles or are swept away by the current. Visit multiple crossing points throughout the day as different sections of the herd attempt their crossing. Return to camp at sunset, emotionally exhausted but transformed.

Full day exploring the Kogatende plains and surrounding woodlands. Morning predator tracking — the areas around the Mara River are home to resident lion prides, leopard territories, and cheetah hunting grounds. Visit Bologonja Springs where animals gather to drink, offering excellent viewing opportunities. Afternoon return to the Mara River for one more chance to witness a crossing or simply watch the drama unfold along the riverbanks. The Northern Serengeti offers some of the best predator viewing in Africa during migration season. Return to camp for a farewell dinner under the stars.

Wake before dawn for a final game drive along the Mara River. The early morning light is magical for photography and the animals are most active at dawn — one last chance to witness a crossing or track predators along the riverbank. Return to camp for breakfast and check-out. Transfer to Kogatende airstrip for your afternoon flight back to Arusha (or begin the scenic drive back). On arrival in Arusha, transfer to your hotel or onward destination. Safari ends.
