Charter Flight to Katavi

Board your charter flight for the scenic journey to Katavi National Park, one of Tanzania's most remote and pristine wilderness areas. The aerial views of the miombo woodlands and the Katuma River floodplains are breathtaking, offering a bird's-eye perspective of this vast and untouched landscape. On arrival at the park's airstrip, you are met by your guide and transferred to your mid-range tented camp, where comfortable tents await with proper beds and en-suite facilities. After settling in and enjoying lunch, head out for your first afternoon game drive along the Katuma River. The river is home to enormous concentrations of hippos, and it is not uncommon to see over a hundred hippos in a single stretch. Watch elephants drinking and playing in the shallows and look for lions resting in the riverside vegetation. Return to camp for sundowner cocktails and a gourmet dinner in the dining tent.

The walk offers an intimate encounter with the African bush, where every sound and scent is amplified when you are on foot. Return to camp for a full breakfast and a leisurely midday at the pool, watching hippos surface in the river below. Day 3

Full Day Katuma River Exploration

Spend a full day exploring the Katuma River and its surrounding floodplains, the heart of Katavi's incredible wildlife concentrations. The morning drive follows the river upstream, where enormous herds of buffalo and elephants gather during the dry season, creating one of Africa's most dramatic wildlife spectacles. Watch lions stalking prey among the buffalo herds, and observe the complex social dynamics of the elephant families as they drink and bathe in the river. Stop for a bush lunch in the shade of a sausage tree, surrounded by the sounds of the African bush. The afternoon drive explores the lower reaches of the river, where huge pods of hippos dominate the water and enormous Nile crocodiles bask on the banks. Katavi's remoteness means you are likely to have these incredible sightings entirely to yourself. Return to camp for dinner under the stars.

Katavi is home to over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts. The morning game drive focuses on the northern section of the park, where the landscape opens into vast grasslands dotted with sausage trees and baobabs. Look for lions, leopards, and the park's impressive population of wild dogs, which are regularly sighted in this area. After lunch at camp, join your guide for a birdwatching session along the river, searching for papyrus gonoleks, white-headed barbets, and the stunning carmine bee-eaters. The afternoon game drive explores the southern floodplains, where huge numbers of zebra, wildebeest, and impala graze under the watchful eyes of predators.
