Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park

Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Afternoon game drive in this compact but diverse park. Lake Manyara is famous for its tree-climbing lions — one of the few places in Africa where lions climb trees to escape the heat and insects. The alkaline lake attracts thousands of flamingos, creating a stunning pink spectacle along the shoreline. Look for elephants in the groundwater forest, giraffes browsing the acacia woodlands, and hippos basking in the lake. The park also hosts leopards, though they are rarely seen. Return to your lakeside lodge as the sun sets over the rift valley escarpment.

Day 2

Lake Manyara to Western Serengeti (Grumeti)

Full-day scenic transfer through the western corridor to the Grumeti River area. The drive takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with stunning views of the crater rim, then down into the western Serengeti. Game drives en route as you enter the Grumeti migration zone. The landscape here is different from the central Serengeti — more wooded with riverine forests along the Grumeti River. On arrival, check into your luxury tented camp positioned near the river. Afternoon game drive along the Grumeti River — watch for crocodiles basking on the sandbanks and the first signs of the migration herds approaching the river. Return to camp for dinner under the stars.

Day 3

Full Day Grumeti River Crossings

Full day along the Grumeti River monitoring crossing points with bush lunch on the riverbank. The Grumeti River crossing is one of the most dramatic phases of the Great Migration — thousands of wildebeest and zebras must navigate strong currents and massive Nile crocodiles. Your guide will position you at the best vantage points based on herd movements. The crossing can happen at any moment — when it does, the chaos and drama unfold before your eyes. The Grumeti River is home to some of the largest crocodiles in Africa, and the crossings here are intense and often bloody. This is nature at its most unforgiving. Visit multiple crossing points throughout the day as different sections of the herd attempt their crossing.

Grumeti Predator Tracking

Morning predator tracking — the Grumeti area is renowned for its high concentration of lions and leopards. The western corridor offers some of the best predator viewing in the Serengeti, with resident lion prides that have learned to hunt the migration herds. Drive through the riverine forests looking for leopards resting in the sausage trees, and scan the open plains for cheetahs on the hunt. The Grumeti River also attracts large numbers of elephants, giraffes, and hippos. Afternoon game drive in a different section of the western corridor, exploring the woodlands and open grasslands. The area is less visited than the central Serengeti, offering a more intimate safari experience. Return to camp for a farewell dinner.

Day 5

Grumeti to Arusha

Wake before dawn for a final game drive along the Grumeti River. The early morning light is magical for photography and the animals are most active at dawn — one last chance to see lions, leopards, or cheetahs in action. Return to camp for breakfast and check-out. Transfer to the Grumeti airstrip for your afternoon flight back to Arusha (available at extra cost), or begin the scenic drive back through the western corridor. Arrive in Arusha by evening. Your safari ends here — but the memories of the Grumeti predator action last forever.
