Day 1
Arrival Day
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be warmly greeted by our representative who will assist you with all arrival procedures. From there, enjoy a comfortable private transfer to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Take the rest of the day to relax, settle in, and prepare for your upcoming adventure. Your journey into the heart of this incredible destination is about to begin!
Day 2
Umbwe Gate (1,800m) – Umbwe Cave Camp (3,750m)
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins! After an early breakfast, you'll be picked up from your hotel and driven to Umbwe Gate on the southern slope of Kilimanjaro. The trail immediately plunges into dense tropical rainforest — a canopy of giant trees, hanging mosses, and ferns. Keep your eyes peeled for black-and-white colobus monkeys swinging through the branches, colorful turacos, and other forest birds. The Umbwe Route is the most direct path to the summit, and the steepness is evident from the start. The trail climbs steadily through the lush greenery, with the canopy gradually thinning as you gain elevation. After approximately 3-4 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp (3,750m), named for the limestone caves found in the area. Settle into your tent, enjoy a hot dinner prepared by your mountain cook, and rest well — tomorrow you'll continue climbing into the alpine desert.
Day 3
Umbwe Cave Camp (3,750m) – Barranco Camp (3,900m)
Today is a critical acclimatization day that follows the "climb high, sleep low" principle. After breakfast, you'll trek upward through the moorland zone and into the stark alpine desert. The terrain becomes increasingly rocky and barren as you ascend towards the Lava Tower (4,600m / 15,091ft), a massive volcanic rock formation that stands like a sentinel on the mountain. When you reach the Lava Tower, you'll be rewarded with jaw-dropping 360° views: Kibo's glaciers to the south, Mawenzi's jagged peaks to the east, and the vast plains of Tanzania stretching endlessly below. Enjoy a well-earned lunch at this altitude before beginning the dramatic descent into the Barranco Valley. The descent is steep at first, winding down through alpine desert terrain before entering the sheltered Barranco Valley. As you approach Barranco Camp, you'll see the infamous Barranco Wall looming ahead — tomorrow's great challenge. This day's climb and descent is essential for acclimatizing your body to the altitude, and significantly increases your chances of reaching the summit.
Day 4
Barranco Camp (3,900m) – Karanga Camp (3,995m)
Today's highlight is the legendary Barranco Wall — a 257-meter (843-foot) steep rock scramble that looks intimidating from below but is an exhilarating and achievable challenge. After an early breakfast, you'll join other climbers at the base of the wall. The climb is a hands-on scramble using ropes and natural handholds — no technical climbing skills are needed, just a sense of adventure and sure-footedness. Your guides will assist you every step of the way. As you ascend, look back for incredible views of Barranco Camp below and the glaciers above. Once you conquer the wall, you'll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Kibo's southern glaciers and the jagged peak of Mawenzi. From the top of the wall, the trail descends through beautiful alpine terrain, passing beneath enormous glaciers and across rocky ridges. You'll trek through the Karanga Valley — the last water source before the summit — before arriving at Karanga Camp (3,995m). This camp offers spectacular views of the sunset over Mawenzi and is the perfect place to rest before the final push to Barafu Camp tomorrow.
Day 5
Karanga Camp (3,995m) – Barafu Camp (4,673m)
The final stretch before your summit attempt! After breakfast, you'll trek through stark, beautiful alpine desert terrain towards Barafu Camp (4,673m / 15,331ft) — the base camp for the summit push. The landscape is otherworldly: barren, rocky, and dramatic, with giant glaciers towering above and Mawenzi's jagged spires piercing the sky. As you climb higher, the air becomes noticeably thinner and each step requires more effort. This is normal — listen to your body, stay hydrated, and keep a steady pace. When you arrive at Barafu Camp, you'll have lunch and then spend the rest of the afternoon resting in your tent. This rest is absolutely critical — you'll be waking up at midnight for the summit attempt. Your guides will brief you on the night ahead: what to wear, what to carry, and what to expect. Eat an early dinner (around 5:00 PM), try to sleep by 6:00-7:00 PM, and mentally prepare for the most challenging and rewarding day of your life. The views from Barafu Camp at sunset — with the sun setting behind Kibo and the glaciers glowing gold — are unforgettable.
Day 6
Barafu Camp (4,673m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Millennium Camp (3,950m)
The moment you've been training and trekking for — Summit Day! Your alarm rings at midnight. After a light breakfast of hot tea, coffee, and biscuits, you'll set off by headlamp into the freezing darkness. The first section is the steepest, climbing relentlessly up loose scree in a single-file line of climbers. The cold is intense (temperatures can drop to -15°C), so wear every layer you have. After approximately 4-5 hours of steady climbing, you'll reach Stella Point (5,756m / 18,885ft) on the crater rim — just in time to witness one of the most breathtaking sunrises you'll ever see, as the sun breaks over the plains of Kenya and Tanzania below. From Stella Point, it's approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft) — the highest point in Africa and the ultimate goal of your journey. When you reach the iconic sign at the summit, emotions run high: tears, cheers, and hugs as you celebrate this life-changing achievement. Take photos, soak in the 360° views of glaciers, clouds, and the African continent stretching below you, and savor every moment. The descent is quicker but still demanding — you'll head back down to Barafu Camp for a celebratory lunch and a short rest before continuing down to Millennium Camp (3,950m), where you'll spend the night exhausted but exhilarated.
Day 7
Millennium Camp (3,950m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m)
The final day! After a well-deserved sleep and celebratory breakfast, you'll begin your descent from Millennium Camp through lush montane forest. The trail winds downhill through beautiful green vegetation — a stark contrast to the barren alpine landscapes of the past few days. You'll pass through heath and moorland zones before entering the dense rainforest, where the air is warm and humid. Keep your eyes open for colobus monkeys and tropical birds as you make your way down. After approximately 5 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you'll sign out and receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate — proof that you conquered Africa's highest peak! Your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower, a cold drink, and a well-deserved celebration dinner with your guides and fellow climbers. This is the end of an incredible journey — one you'll remember for the rest of your life.
