The afternoon game drive takes you along the Tarangire River, where elephants, lions, and wild dogs gather in large numbers. The park's diverse habitats range from swampy marshes to open grasslands, supporting an incredible array of birdlife including kori bustards and yellow-collared lovebirds. After a bush breakfast, transfer south to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact gem set beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The afternoon game drive reveals a park of surprising diversity from groundwater forests to open grasslands and a soda lake teeming with flamingos and pelicans. Spot the famous tree-climbing lions draped in the branches of acacia trees and huge herds of elephants in the marshy areas. Camp near the lake shore and enjoy dinner under a canopy of stars.

After brunch at camp, begin the spectacular transfer through the Ngorongoro Highlands, passing Maasai settlements and emerald-green hills dotted with cattle. The route takes you along the crater rim before descending onto the vast Serengeti plains, arriving in time for your first afternoon game drive. The Serengeti's endless grasslands stretch to every horizon, dotted with kopjes where lions, cheetahs, and leopards make their dens. Stop for a bush breakfast in the shade of an acacia, surrounded by the sounds of the savannah. After a midday rest at camp, head out again for an afternoon drive through the Seronera Valley, known for its high density of leopards and enormous crocodiles along the Seronera River. Arrive at the crater rim in the late afternoon, where the views into the world's largest intact volcanic caldera are simply breathtaking. Set up camp on the rim and enjoy a warm dinner with the crater's misty depths spread below you. Listen for the distant calls of hyenas echoing up from the crater floor.

The crater floor supports over 25,000 animals including the endangered black rhino, giant tusker elephants, and enormous buffalo herds. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the scenic Hippo Pool, where hippos grunt and surface just metres from your vehicle. Scan the soda lake for flamingos and pelicans, and watch lions stalking wildebeest on the open grasslands. The crater walls provide a dramatic backdrop to your wildlife photography, especially when the afternoon light catches the lake's surface. Ascend in the late afternoon and drive back to Arusha, arriving in time for a farewell dinner and reflection on an unforgettable six-day safari.
