Day 0
Arrival Day
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be warmly greeted by our representative who will assist you with all arrival procedures. From there, enjoy a comfortable private transfer to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Take the rest of the day to relax, settle in, and prepare for your upcoming adventure. Your journey into the heart of this incredible destination is about to begin!
Day 1
Moshi – Londorossi Gate (2,100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins on the western side of the mountain! After an early breakfast, you'll be driven approximately 4 hours from Moshi to Londorossi Gate on the western slope of Kilimanjaro. At the gate, your guides and porters will complete registration and you'll receive a brief orientation. You'll then drive another 45 minutes to the Lemosho Glades where your trek begins. The trail immediately plunges into dense tropical rainforest — a canopy of giant trees, hanging mosses, and ferns. Keep your eyes peeled for black-and-white colobus monkeys swinging through the branches, colorful turacos, and other forest birds. The path is well-maintained and the gradient is gentle, making it a perfect warm-up day. After approximately 3-4 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m), also known as "Big Tree Camp," situated in a clearing surrounded by ancient trees. Settle into your tent, enjoy a hot dinner prepared by your mountain cook, and rest well — tomorrow you'll climb higher into the moorlands.
Day 2
Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m) – Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)
Today marks a dramatic transition in landscape. After breakfast, you'll ascend steadily out of the rainforest and into the heath and moorland zone. The trail climbs through giant heather and Erica trees, with views opening up behind you as you gain elevation. As you emerge from the forest, the landscape transforms into open moorland dotted with giant groundsel and lobelia plants — prehistoric-looking vegetation found only on East African mountains. You'll cross the Shira Ridge and drop gently down to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m), where you'll catch your first breathtaking glimpse of Kibo across the plateau. The camp is beautifully situated with stunning sunset views. Take your time to acclimatize, explore the area, and enjoy the extraordinary scenery surrounding you.
Day 3
Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) – Shira 2 Camp (3,950m)
A shorter, more relaxed day designed for acclimatization. After breakfast, you'll trek east across the vast Shira Plateau on moorland meadows. The terrain is relatively flat but the altitude makes it challenging. You'll walk through an alpine desert environment with expansive vistas of Kilimanjaro's southern slopes. As you approach Shira 2 Camp (3,950m), you'll be treated to incredible panoramic views of the mountain and its glaciers. The heath zone displays abundant wildflowers and unique Senecio trees. Take your time to acclimatize, rest in your tent, and hydrate well. Tomorrow, you'll begin the journey towards Moir Hut on the northern slopes.
Day 4
Shira 2 Camp (3,950m) – Moir Hut (4,161m)
Today you'll leave the Shira Plateau and head towards the remote northern slopes — the beginning of the actual "Northern Circuit." The trail climbs gently through alpine desert terrain, passing unique volcanic formations and enjoying stunning views of Kibo's glaciers. As you approach Moir Hut (4,161m), you'll be treated to spectacular views of the mountain's eastern glaciers and the vast plains below. The camp is beautifully situated in a sheltered valley with incredible sunset views. Take your time to acclimatize, explore the area, and enjoy the extraordinary scenery surrounding you. This is the quietest section of Kilimanjaro — you may not see other climbers for hours.
Day 5
Moir Hut (4,161m) – Buffalo Camp (4,020m)
Today you'll continue circling the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro — the most remote and untouched section of the mountain. The trail traverses alpine desert terrain with incredible views of the Kenyan plains stretching to the horizon. You'll pass through areas where elephants and buffalo are sometimes spotted (hence the camp name). The terrain is relatively flat but the altitude makes it challenging. As you approach Buffalo Camp (4,020m), you'll enjoy panoramic views of the northern face of Kilimanjaro. Take your time to acclimatize, explore the area, and enjoy the extraordinary scenery surrounding you. This is true wilderness — the kind of Kilimanjaro experience most climbers never see.
Day 6
Buffalo Camp (4,020m) – Third Cave Camp (3,800m)
Today you'll continue your journey around the northern slopes towards the eastern side of the mountain. The trail descends slightly before climbing again through alpine desert terrain. As you trek, you'll enjoy incredible views of Kibo's glaciers and the vast landscapes below. After approximately 4-5 hours of hiking, you'll reach Third Cave Camp (3,800m), beautifully situated with views of the mountain. Take your time to acclimatize, rest in your tent, and hydrate well. Tomorrow you'll climb significantly higher to School Hut, the base camp for the summit push.
Day 7
Third Cave Camp (3,800m) – School Hut (4,800m)
The final stretch before your summit attempt! After breakfast, you'll trek through stark, beautiful alpine desert terrain towards School Hut (4,800m) — the base camp for the summit push. The terrain is otherworldly: barren, rocky, and dramatic, with giant glaciers towering above. As you climb higher, the air becomes noticeably thinner and each step requires more effort. This is normal — listen to your body, stay hydrated, and keep a steady pace. When you arrive at School Hut, you'll have lunch and then spend the rest of the afternoon resting in your tent. This rest is absolutely critical — you'll be waking up at midnight for the summit attempt. Your guides will brief you on the night ahead: what to wear, what to carry, and what to expect. Eat an early dinner (around 5:00 PM), try to sleep by 6:00-7:00 PM, and mentally prepare for the most challenging and rewarding day of your life.
Day 8
School Hut (4,800m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
The moment you've been training and trekking for — Summit Day! Your alarm rings at midnight. After a light breakfast of hot tea, coffee, and biscuits, you'll set off by headlamp into the freezing darkness. The first section is the steepest, climbing relentlessly up loose scree in a single-file line of climbers. The cold is intense (temperatures can drop to -15°C), so wear every layer you have. After approximately 4-5 hours of steady climbing, you'll reach Gilman's Point (5,681m) on the crater rim — a major milestone. From here, it's approximately 1 hour along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft) — the highest point in Africa and the ultimate goal of your journey. When you reach the iconic sign at the summit, emotions run high: tears, cheers, and hugs as you celebrate this life-changing achievement. Take photos, soak in the 360° views of glaciers, clouds, and the African continent stretching below you, and savor every moment. The descent is longer on this route — you'll head back down to School Hut for a celebratory lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m), where you'll spend the night exhausted but exhilarated.
Day 9
Mweka Camp (3,100m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m)
The final day! After a well-deserved sleep and celebratory breakfast, you'll begin your descent from Mweka Camp through lush montane forest. The trail winds downhill through beautiful green vegetation — a stark contrast to the barren alpine landscapes of the past few days. You'll pass through heath and moorland zones before entering the dense rainforest, where the air is warm and humid. Keep your eyes open for colobus monkeys and tropical birds as you make your way down. After approximately 5-6 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you'll sign out and receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate — proof that you conquered Africa's highest peak! Your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower, a cold drink, and a well-deserved celebration dinner with your guides and fellow climbers. This is the end of an incredible journey — one you'll remember for the rest of your life.
