Explore Ndutu Area
The Ndutu Area is one of the most spectacular wildlife regions in Tanzania, situated in the southern Serengeti ecosystem where the Ngorongoro Conservation Area meets the vast Serengeti plains. This area is world-famous as the calving ground for the Great Migration, where over 500,000 wildebeest are born each year between January and March.
The short-grass plains of Ndutu provide ideal conditions for young wildebeest, with nutrient-rich grasses and mineral-laden soils that support lactating mothers. The flat, open landscape makes it easy to witness dramatic predator-prey interactions as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and wild dogs hunt the vulnerable newborns.
Beyond the migration, Ndutu offers exceptional year-round wildlife viewing. The area is home to large herds of elephants, giraffes, zebras, and numerous predator species. The kopjes (rocky outcrops) scattered across the plains provide shelter for lions and leopards, while the swamps attract flocks of flamingos and other waterbirds.
