The trail follows the ridge with stunning views of Ngurdoto Crater and the Momella Lakes. Keep your eyes open for colobus monkeys swinging through the canopy, giraffes grazing in the clearings, and a rich variety of tropical birds. The forest is alive with the sounds of nature. The trail steepens as you ascend through the heath zone, where giant heather plants and wildflowers line the path. As you climb higher, the vegetation thins and you enter the moorland zone with its otherworldly giant lobelias and groundsels. The final push to Miriakamba Hut (3,200m) rewards you with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro, the Momella Lakes, and the surrounding plains. This is a crucial acclimatisation day.
