Itinerary

Day 1

Momella Gate to Forest Camp

Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate (1,500m) in Arusha National Park. After park registration, begin your trek through the lush montane forest. The trail follows the ridge with stunning views of Ngurdoto Crater and the Momella Lakes. Watch for colobus monkeys in the canopy, giraffes in the clearings, and tropical birds throughout. Cross several streams and pass through dense vegetation before reaching Forest Camp (2,500m) in the late afternoon.

Day 2

Forest Camp to Miriakamba Hut

Trek through three ecological zones today. Leave the rainforest and enter the bamboo zone with its towering stalks creating a natural cathedral. The trail steepens as you ascend through the heath zone with giant heather and wildflowers. Enter the moorland zone with its otherworldly giant lobelias and groundsels. Reach Miriakamba Hut (3,200m) with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and the plains below.

Day 3

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

A shorter day for acclimatisation. Ascend through the moorland zone to Saddle Hut (3,700m). After lunch, take an acclimatisation hike to Little Meru (3,800m) for stunning views and to help your body adjust to altitude. Return to Saddle Hut for dinner and early sleep before tomorrow's summit attempt.

Day 4

Summit Day - Mount Meru Peak

Wake at 2:00 AM for the summit attempt. After hot drinks and light breakfast, begin the steep ascent by torchlight. The trail follows the rocky ridge to the summit cone. Watch the sun rise over Kilimanjaro in spectacular color as you climb. Reach Socialist Peak (4,566m) for panoramic views. After celebration, descend to Miriakamba Hut for lunch, then continue to Momella Gate. Transfer to Arusha.
