Day 1
Arrival in Arusha
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your personal safari guide. After a brief orientation, you will be transferred to the luxurious Gran Meliรก Arusha, nestled among lush coffee plantations with stunning views of Mount Meru. Settle into your elegant suite and enjoy the serene surroundings. In the evening, gather for a welcome dinner at the hotel's gourmet restaurant, where you'll discuss your safari itinerary and preferences with your guide.
Day 2
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, depart for Tarangire National Park, known as the 'Elephant Kingdom.' The 2-hour drive takes you through scenic Maasai landscapes and local villages. Upon entering the park, begin your first game drive through the iconic baobab-studded terrain. Tarangire is home to one of Africa's largest elephant populations, with herds of up to 300 individuals. Search for lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and over 550 bird species. As the sun sets, arrive at the exclusive Tarangire Treetops Lodge, where your treehouse suite offers panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness.
Day 3
Full Day in Tarangire National Park
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the wonders of Tarangire. Rise before dawn for an early morning game drive, when predators are most active and the golden light creates perfect photography conditions. Return to the lodge for a full breakfast, then head out again to explore different sectors of the park. Visit the Tarangire River, where massive herds gather to drink, and the ancient swamps home to rare species like the fringe-eared oryx and gerenuk. Your guide will share insights about the park's ecology and animal behavior. End the day with sundowner cocktails overlooking a waterhole as elephants come to drink.
Day 4
Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact gem famous for its tree-climbing lions and flocks of flamingos. The park's diverse habitats range from groundwater forests to open grasslands and the alkaline lake itself. Stop at the Maasai village of Mto wa Mbu for a cultural interaction and local lunch. Continue into the park for an afternoon game drive, searching for the legendary tree-climbing lions resting in acacia branches, large elephant herds, and hippos in the lake. The park is also a birdwatcher's paradise with over 400 species. Arrive at the elegant Manyara Serena Safari Lodge, perched on the escarpment with breathtaking views over the lake.
Day 5
Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park
Depart early for the legendary Serengeti National Park, driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with spectacular views of the highlands. Stop at a scenic viewpoint for photographs before descending to the vast Serengeti plains. The Serengeti's endless grasslands stretching to the horizon are one of Africa's most iconic landscapes. Begin your first game drive in the central Seronera area, famous for its big cat populations. Search for lions lounging on kopjes, leopards in sausage trees, and cheetahs on the open plains. Arrive at the luxurious Meliรก Serengeti Lodge, where your suite offers stunning views of the endless plains and wildlife passing below.
Day 6
Serengeti Balloon Safari & Full Day Game Drive
The highlight of your safari begins before dawn as you transfer to the balloon launch site. Watch the colorful balloon inflate against the pre-dawn sky before lifting off silently over the Serengeti plains. As the sun rises, float above the wildlife below โ herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle casting long shadows on the golden grasslands, elephants moving in family groups, and predators on the hunt. Land in the bush where a champagne breakfast awaits you under an acacia tree. After breakfast, continue with a full-day game drive across the Serengeti. Depending on the season, you may witness parts of the Great Migration. Search for the Big Five and enjoy a bush lunch in the wilderness. Return to the lodge as the sun sets over the plains.
Day 7
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
After an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Stop at the Olduvai Gorge, where the Leakeys discovered some of the oldest human fossils, and visit the small museum. Continue to the crater rim, where you'll check into the legendary Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, built into the crater rim with unmatched views. In the afternoon, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. The crater floor is home to over 25,000 animals including the rare black rhino, large lion prides, elephants, and flocks of flamingos on the soda lake. Enjoy a spectacular game drive in this natural amphitheater before returning to the lodge.
Day 8
Ngorongoro Crater & Departure
Rise early for a final descent into the Ngorongoro Crater. The morning light offers excellent photography opportunities as animals are active in the cool air. Spend the morning searching for any species you may have missed, including the elusive black rhino and endangered wild dogs. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Hippo Pool picnic site, watching hippos wallow in the water. After lunch, ascend the crater rim and begin the scenic drive back to Arusha. Arrive in time for last-minute shopping or a visit to the Cultural Heritage Centre before transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
