Discover the best seasons for wildlife viewing, Great Migration experiences, and successful Kilimanjaro climbs.

When to Visit Tanzania

Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the timing of your trip can significantly impact your experience. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you plan.

Dry Season (June – October)

The best time for safari. Animals gather around water sources, vegetation thins out, and visibility is excellent. This is peak season β€” expect higher prices and more visitors.

Great Migration

  • Dec – Mar: Calving season in Ndutu (Southern Serengeti)
  • Apr – Jul: Western Corridor & Grumeti River crossings
  • Aug – Oct: Mara River crossings (Northern Serengeti)

Kilimanjaro Climbing

Best months: January–March and June–October. These offer the driest conditions and clearest summit views. Avoid April-May (long rains) and November (short rains).

Wet Season (March – May)

Fewer tourists, lush green landscapes, and lower prices. Great for birdwatching and photography enthusiasts who don't mind occasional rain.
